What Does a Referee Do?

  • Maintain Fair Play: Ensure roller derby rules are followed during practices and bouts, keeping the game fair and competitive.

  • Ensure Safety: Monitor gameplay to protect the safety of all skaters, calling penalties and managing game flow.

  • Support the League: Work closely with skaters, non-skating officials (NSOs), and other volunteers to create a positive environment for games and events.

Requirements to Become a Referee with PanU:

  • Attend Regular Training: Commit to referee training sessions to learn the rules, signals, and positioning needed to officiate roller derby games.

  • Learn the WFTDA Ruleset: Study and understand the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) rules governing our league’s gameplay.

  • Pass Skills Assessments: Successfully pass WFTDA officiating skills assessments to ensure you are prepared for officiating in competitive settings.

  • Stay Engaged: Participate in league activities, meetings, and events to stay connected and informed about league developments.

  • Uphold the WFTDA Code of Conduct: Maintain the highest sportsmanship, fairness, and integrity standards on and off the track.
